The Club

The game of golf has been played at Carnoustie since before Columbus discovered America, making it one of the oldest courses in the world. The links have been played over the years by all the golfing greats and have acquired a deserved reputation as a demanding test of golfing ability. These facts alone, however, are but a small measure of the contribution Carnoustie has made to the history and development of golf today.

The first indication of the game being played here can be found in the Parish Records of 1560 when the game of ‘gowff’ was mentioned and since then the game has thrived, playing a central role in the development of the town.
