The Club
Royal St Georges is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in England. It opened in 1887 and was named after the English Patron Saint. The first Open to be held outside Scotland was played here in 1894 and the club has held 12 Opens since and other major championships.
Royal Patronage was granted in 1902 and The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) became Club Captain. Many celebrated people have been affiliated with the club. The great golf writer Bernard Darwin was president of the club between 1952 and 1961.
A true private members club, Royal St Georges still retains the golfing traditions that so many other clubs lack today. Situated right on the Kent coast, the championship course offers breathtaking views and a vast expanse that has to be seen to be believed.
