The Golf Woburn Golf Club is unique as it is able to offer its members and guests a choice of three championship courses each with their own individual characteristics. Any day spent on the Duke's, the Duchess' or the Marquess course is a day to remember. The Duke's Course The Duke's course was the scene of the British Masters for 20 years as well as other top men's and women's professional events. The course was created on some of the finest inland golfing country in Europe. The fairways of the 6,963 yard Duke's course are lined with pine, silver birch and chestnut trees. The famous third hole is framed by rhododendron bushes and has recently been voted in the World's Top 500 Holes by Golf Magazine. Heather, bracken and gorse add to the charm of the course as well as the natural hazards of each hole. The Duchess Course Now placed in the top 75 courses in the British Isles, the Duchess course is a fine example of a course built for the thinking golfer. The natural characteristics of each hole demand a number of different strategies and provide a testing challenge. Slightly shorter in length than the Duke's at 6,651 yards, the Duchess course is cut from more formal pine forest. Its rolling fairways and subtle contours are deceptively landscaped to test the golfers full repertoire of shots. The Marquess Course Opened in 2000, The Marquess course was a breath-taking addition to the golf club creating a 54-hole complex that is possibly unrivalled anywhere in the UK. Named after the then Marquess of Tavistock, the new course measures 7,214 yards and is already being called the 'Jewel in the Crown'. Set within 200 acres of mixed woodland the Marquess course overlaps the county boundary dividing Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire and presents a variety of rolling and undulating terrain. The predominant tree species are pine, spruce, sweet chestnut and oak, while there are a number of rare specimens such as Corsican pine, yew, rowan and beech. The course has been designed to provide an enjoyable challenge for all golfers with each hole having its own unique character. |
